RULES AND OTHER STUFF ....

HOW DO YOU PLAY?
The Game of SKATE is based on the basketball Game of HORSE. Here's how to play:

  • The first skater tries a trick, makes it, and everyone else has to make it. Whoever doesn't make it gets a letter. The first letter is "S," the second letter is "K", and so on, until "S-K-A-T-E" is spelled out, and that person is out of the game. When it's the first skater's turn again, he tries another trick. If he makes it, the whole process repeats.
  • If the first person misses the trick he tries, the second player tries his own trick. If he makes it, everyone else has to make that trick, in order. If anyone misses, they get a letter, and so on.
  • NOW - THIS IS WHERE WE DO THINGS DIFFERENT: The FoMSP game of SKATE changes thing up a bit. We have 5 categories of tricks: Flatland, Flatbar, Box (or ledge), Quarterpipe, and Manual Pad. The terrain to have the first trick to be set will be randomly selected by a judge. The order of terrain will also be set by the judge. Skaters will stay on that terrain until a trick is set. Once a trick is set, and all skaters have attempted the trick (successfully or not) all skaters must move to the next terrain to set the next trick.
    • For example: We have a 2 person game. Skater 1 sets a trick on a quarterpipe. Skater 2 falls. Skater 2 gets a letter. Both skaters now move to the next terrain - the ledge. Skater 1 is still on offense, he is to set the trick. Skater 1 tries, but falls. Skater 2 now must set a trick on the ledge. This will repeat until either skater sets a trick. Once a trick is set, the other skater will attempt. If the skater makes the trick, they both move to the next terrain. If the skater gets a letter, they STILL move to the next terrain.
    • A TRICK CANNOT BE SET ON A TERRAIN 2 TIMES IN A ROW. This will keep someone from camping out. There is no way to get 2 consecutive letters on one piece of equipment because once a trick is set on a terrain, all skaters MUST move to the next terrain after everyone attempts (whether successful or not).

Rules for FoMSP Game of SKATE Tournament

  • Call your shot. Name the trick you're going to do, sort of like a game of pool.
  • No hands on the ground, before or after trick.
  • On offense (when it's your trick) the trick must be landed completely clean. No toe-drag, the skater must be moving, with both feet solid on the board. Basically, the skater must ride away cleanly.
  • On defense (when doing the other guy's trick) there is leeway for landings. This will be up to the skaters and the scorekeepers, but it is truly objective: either the trick was landed properly or not.
  • FoMSP Game of SKATE will be a tournament-style contest. Skaters are randomly seeded into tournament brackets for two or four-man Games of SKATE based on the number of participants (to be decided by the judges before starting). The tournament will be single elimination, so you keep advancing in each round until you lose one game and then you're out.
  • The judges have the final say. If you have a complaint, please take it up with a judge as soon as possible.

If you are under 18 - You must have a parent or guardian with you when you register. If your parent or guardian isn't available at registration time, download the waiver and get it notorized BEFORE you come to the event to register.
